Dioxin found in the US beef
The U.S. beef imported had not only bone chips but also dioxin

Dioxin which causes disease including cancer was found out from the U.S. beef imported to Korea.
Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announced Thursday that ‘National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service(NVRQ)’ had closely inspected 10.2 tons of the beef and detected 6.26 picogram/g of dioxin after all. The tolerance limit is 5 pg/g in Korea.

It was the first time that dioxin which violates the limit found in the U.S. beef imported to Korea and it was never shown in Korean beef.
Conforming to the domestic rule, the imported beef has to be returned and the works which exported it are forbidden to ship.
But the beef was already sent back on Dec. 6th because it contained bone chips.
Kim Chang-seob, the chief veterinary officer at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry said that the ministry informed the U.S. government of the report and demanded explaining why.
But the Reuter reported that senator Charles Grassley, chairman of the Finance Committee argued that the U.S. Congress would not ratify the Kor-U.S. FTA as long as S.Korea remove the import restrictions on the U.S. beef of ‘safety’.
